How we talk to ourselves before, during and after lifting has a MASSIVE impact, not just on our performance, but on progress and strength as well. So this includes looking at and shifting inner thoughts. It can sound a bit woo woo but the impact is dramatic.
When I told myself I didn’t deserve to go to nationals, my body and my training PROVED me right. When I told myself I WAS strong and I set my mind to say nice things to myself, my training completely proved that theory correct. We always prove ourselves right (whether we think we can or can’t), so why not have it be what we want?
Celebrate what is going good so that it can be built on. This is still reality based. Doing a weight with more regularity or stronger or for an extra set are all wonderful things to acknowledge and tell yourself good job for. Being able to turn a session around where you were missing 60% and came back and made 3 singles beautifully - a cause for celebration! It’s about what you CAN do on any particular day.
